HRT Formula One Team heads to the Nürburgring this weekend for the German Grand Prix, midpoint of the 2011 championship, the tenth round of the season and the 28th of the team’s history. On July 22-24, the historic Nürburgring circuit will be the next challenge for the young team competing in its second full season and comes two weeks after it achieved another of its goals of completing a two-car finish (18th-19th) at the British Grand Prix
The Nurburgring is a circuit that needs no introduction but unlike the F1 drivers of yesteryear, today’s crop will be racing around the smaller and much tamer Grand Prix race track built in 1984. The track may not offer many opportunities for overtaking, though it remains one of the safest.
Sebastian Vettel remains at the top of the Drivers’ Championship points table with a clear lead of 80 points over second placed Mark Webber, who stands on 124 points. With his latest win, Fernando Alonso stands in third place with 112 points and is just ahead of fourth placed Lewis Hamilton of McLaren on 109 points.
Not surprisingly, Red Bull Racing is leading the Constructors’ Championship with 328 points, followed by McLaren on 218 points and Ferrari on 164 points.
